What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
What is an international move? This is a move where your items must cross an international boundary, regardless of actual distance.
Do I need to provide lunch for my movers? Your moving professionals will need to eat at some point during the day. You don’t need to provide lunch, although doing so will reduce the time they require to drive to and from a local restaurant which will save you money.
If I’m moving internationally, how will I know which items I can’t bring with me? Your moving company should provide you with a list of custom regulations for your destination country. This document will indicate which items are prohibited or restricted by the particular country.
Will my movers clean my home once my move is complete? Most professional movers will clean up any mess they have made during the actual move. However, they don’t perform general house cleaning so you must hire a professional cleaning service or perform this task yourself.
What should I do to prepare my appliances before my move? Make sure that appliances such as your microwave, dishwasher and washing machine are completely empty before the move. You may also need to hire professionals to disconnect any electric and water connections.
Can movers transport my hot tub or spa? Yes, but moving companies will charge extra because these items require a special dolly and flatbed truck.
How can I lower the cost of my move? Try to book your move Monday through Thursday because weekends are usually busier and more expensive. You may also be able to save money by moving in the middle of the month or avoiding the busy summer months.
What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day? If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move.
What is third party service? This is a service contracted out to people other than the movers. It may include waterbed service, household cleaning or appliance servicing.
What are linehaul charges? These are basic charges for long distance move that are calculated by the weight of your shipment and total mileage.
